Helpful Hints
  • You may search on multiple words or phrases by selecting either the "All of the words" or "Any of the words" option in the drop down box.
  • Only one word can be searched at a time if you choose the "Beginning of the word" option in the drop down box, e.g. a search for precip would find precipitator, precipitators and precipitation.
  • You may limit your word search by also including a date range, e.g. 1/1/2000-12/31/2004 would only find articles with your search word(s) during that time period.
  • To search for an exact phrase, surround it by quotes, .e.g an "All of the words" search for "wide plate spacing" would find articles containing this exact phrase, whereas a search for wide plate spacing may find articles containing wide and plate and spacing, but not necessarily together as a phrase.
  • For a multiple word search, you may use the wildcard character to search for variations of the same word, e.g. esp* would search for ESP, ESPs or ESP/FF, whereas a search for ESP may only find articles containing the word ESP.
  • Single word searches must be for words with at least three letters. To search for standard abbreviations like Hg or FF, add the wildcard character * to the end of the abbreviation, e.g. Hg* and FF*. Otherwise you will get an error message that the search was not specific enough.
  • When searching for technologies, it is usually better to use an "Any of the words" search for the combination of the technology and the abbreviation, e.g. search on the words mercury Hg* for mercury or search on "fabric filter*" FF* for fabric filter(s).
